…I don’t know! I guess that’s what life is all about, the quest for knowledge and understanding about your place in the universe.
I have lived in Monterey, CA for the nearly 10 years. I have traveled extensively throughout the United States with my beautiful and talented wife. We pay specific attention to national parks, state parks, and the splendid nature that abounds. I have degrees in Sociology and English with minors in Philosophy and American Studies from SUNY Fredonia. I have been in education for just over 10 years. I have taught high school and middle school English, as well as AVID and Workability. I have also been a substitute at every grade, and for every level of student. This wide range of interests and assignments over the past 10 years has given me a unique perspective on education, and has certainly informed me as a teacher.
I have always loved the quote from Heraclitus, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” Change is one thing we can always rely on in the universe, some say the only constant. Seeking a change, I decided to take a year leave of absence from my teaching job at Los Arboles Middle School in Marina, CA where I have worked for 8 years. I enrolled in a Master’s of Arts in Teaching (MAT) online program with Fresno State. Now, the plan is to take classes and travel the U.S. in my Eurovan camper with multiple projects in mind.
The overarching theme is “Connections.” I hope to reconnect with friends and family scattered throughout the U.S., as well as go back to my home town of Franklinville, New York. I want to reconnect with some passions of mine including: writing, photography, music, and simply being out in nature. I will be seeking to make new connections with peoples and passions along the journey.
I will also be working on this blog and website project. The blog will be about my travels, the people I meet on the road, the projects I am working on, life in a Eurovan, and anything else I imagine along the way. Hatchology.com will have a definite association with education, as by trade I am a teacher. A big project I want to tackle is to interview individuals along my travels about how they connect to education, and particularly, about the connections they had/have with teachers. I hope to show the importance of education as well as the significance of the roll of teachers on our society.
I am not sure what will become of these projects I have started off on, but in the end I will be a different person, as change is the constant I am seeking. Please, whether you are family, friends, colleagues, former students of mine, new acquaintances, passers by, or curious onlookers, enjoy the journey along with me. Don’t hesitate to send comments on the blog or write an email to email@example.com.
Thank You For Joining Me,
